So I went and got some lovely infographics from visual.ly which clearly explain some gender inequalities that we are still experiencing nowadays - in the West. People are less quick to dismiss feminism in the non-western world, because it would be much more problematic to assert that feminism is pointless in those regions, specially when there are some women still fighting for the right to drive a car.
*Some of these might be a little bit dated (2/3 years), but they still serve to illustrate the relevance of feminism today.
**This is NOT a summary of all feminist causes in the Western world, these are just some examples**
Europe (and central Asia)
United States of America
I know the infographics focus heavily around the pay gap theme, but those are the ones I could find which were the easiest to read.
The fact that you may not have experienced gender inequality in your life does not mean it doesn't exist. What would you think if someone claimed that dark streets at night aren't really that dangerous because they have never been assaulted themselves? Keep your priviledge in check. If you have never experienced gender discrimination, then I am truly happy for you, but stop trivializing the experiences of others based on your own. Being oblivious of the world we live in is not an admireable quality.
Note to those who don't believe we can make a change: Stop standing in the way of those who want to and do make a difference. If you truly think feminism is irrelevant and will not accomplish anything, then stop treating as you would a threat, since you don't think it's going influence anything anyway - If you do see it as a threat, ask yourself, what exactly is it threatening?
